I like the 1st Garcia solo record and Blues for Allah best, and like many recorded performances. Throwing Stones, for example, has a Garcia solo that's really good and succinctly stated.

i hear ya Spaced, "In The Dark" is the studio album that i have listened to the most, not so much for song selection but for overall energy...GD said that this recording was done live without an audience (i think it was at Marin Veterans) , with a very small amount of after the fact (and more of the same) tweaking

i always liked Wake of the Flood - well engeenired and very crispy sounding - lots of great tunes very well played - one of my favs
of course, Workingmans is also a total classic of early dead.

I was looking through the bins at Ameoba the other day, wondering how to use up some credit...

almost bought ANTHEM OF THE SUN, in HD-CD.
Passed on AOXOMOXOA in HD-CD, since not the original spacey mix, then went over to the record section... yep, they had AOXO on vinyl - the original mix, but still I resisted... LIVE DEAD on HD-CD is tempting, but heard it so many times...
may go back for ANTHEM after all.

WORKINGMAN'S might be nice, in HD-CD, but I want to psych out, blast off and hear those two drummers DRUM!

Ever been busted for smilin' on a cloudy day?

if they have Without a Net and you don't - pick that up - great recording and great versions of the songs. Birdsong and Eyes are stellar

I was at Amoeba on Haight today and they have used CDs of Without a Net (the one with the poster and picture CDs is cheaper) and closing of Winterland. Of all the Altheas I like the one on Without a Net best, though I saw some good Dick's Picks and the excellent Vault II show from LA.

Yes we are back to GD but we haven't forgotten about the fascist dog that hasn't been locally fed in years.

We know you're out there
But in these new dark ages
There will still be light

We can hear you coming
(We can hear you coming)
No you're not going to win this time
We can hear the footsteps
(We can hear the footsteps)
Way out along the walkway

But we're on guard this time
Against your final solution
